JACOB C. RUTTENBERG
Sound Designer
My name is Jacob Ruttenberg and I'm a Chicago native, sound designer, and storytelling enthusiastic. I have worked in many different areas of audio, including: sound designer, technical implementer, and composer for video games. I'm also a re-recording mixer for award-winning indie short films, comedy sketches, and VR media. I also have a love for field recording and foley.
I earned my BA from New York University in Sound for Modern Media. Since graduating three years ago, I've worked as a sound designer on a number of video games and short films. Most recently I was an audio director for Idle Expanse, a lovechild between a number of senior-level developers at Iron Galaxy Studios and Obsidian Entertainment.
I'm also studying at USC's esteemed Game Design program. I am one of 20 accepted students to this three-year, MFA program. I'm currently the Audio Director and Creative Lead on a number of games, ranging in team size from 3 to 20.
The origins of my love for sound design began around 2005 from playing games like Kingdom Hearts and World of Warcraft. Though I’ve taken an interesting journey through media like music, short films, and other linear content, video games are what I love most. Memorable sound effects, emergent narratives and the people who create them is what inspires me.
I also love watching basketball, playing with my cat Dillon, cooking sweet potatoes, thinking about city planning, reading fantasy novels and being an active citizen of the world.
I am actively seeking work as a video game sound designer in Los Angeles, CA.
